Evan Guthrie Scholarship Fund

Evan Guthrie connected with the Central Okanagan Foundation in January 2016. He is an incredible student-athlete and wanted to find a way to give back to the community that has supported him, and continues to support him, as he pursues his education and sporting career. Evan grew up in the Okanagan and has participated in a variety of sports from a young age; everything from rugby to volleyball and many others in between, but biking is the sport that has stuck with him. By the time he was 18, Evan had won 4 National Championships in cross-country mountain biking and cyclo-cross. He continues to compete and succeed locally, nationally, and internationally, while working towards completing his diploma in Business Administration at Okanagan College. Evan is a volunteer coach with the local Red Devils Cycling Academy team and the Cycling BC iRide programs in Elementary schools. He is also an ambassador for KidSport.

Evan launched his scholarship fund to support student-athletes in pursuing their dreams. As a graduate from Mount Boucherie Secondary School, Evan's inaugural scholarship was open to Mount Boucherie students and was awarded to local biathlete, Tekarra Banser, who is now attending UBC-Okanagan. In the coming year, Evan will be opening up his scholarship to all high schools in the Central Okanagan.

"A couple years ago I had the vision, which was initiated with the help of my mom, to give back in a more powerful way, as that is why I'm able to pursue my Olympic dreams at the moment. The scholarship fund idea popped up and after seeing how Kelsey Serwa created such an opportunity for these student-athletes, I also wanted to build something. When I first contacted the COF they were thrilled and welcomed me with passion and I knew that was who I wanted to build this fund with. I'm hoping to grow the fund and be able to reach more students in the next few years and for it to continue past my lifetime," says Evan Guthrie.
