Thompson Okanagan Dental Society Endowment Fund
The purpose of the Thompson Okanagan Dental Society (TODS) is to promote a high standard in the practice of dentistry, encourage the improvement of the health of the public, promote the art and science of dentistry, and to hold educational meetings.
In 2005, TODS partnered with Gayle Faigan as fundraising chair to create an initiative to support dental related charities throughout the Thompson Okanagan region. For the last 11 years, Gayle has established a variety of fundraising events that occur throughout the annual meetings held in the fall, raising over $160,000 to support charities. Types of charities include the five Community Dental Clinics in Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton, Vernon and Salmon Arm, the Southern Interior Cancer Centre Dental Comfort Fund, the BC Dental Association's Save a Smile Foundation, the Central Okanagan Foodbanks, and Rotaplast Canada.
With the goal of creating a legacy for the TODS fundraising initiatives, Gayle approached the Central Okanagan Foundation to launch the TODS Endowment Fund. The establishment of this fund will provide a venue for future generations to make a difference within the dental community. Not only will the TODS Endowment Fund strive as annual fundraising endeavors continue, it will also encourage other types of donating to the fund outside of the regular fundraising. This could include memorial gifts in honor of a colleague or loved one, donations in celebration of accomplishments, or corporate/dental society charitable donations.
With the TODS Endowment Fund, a process is now in place to build long term sustainable support for important dental-related charities in the Thompson Okanagan region.
